San José is an alluring costal village in the province of Almeria, where the plethora of the 20th century have thankfully not taken a hold. It is a exceptional niche where travellers are genuinely welcomed as honoured guests, rather than simply as tourists. It is a region immortalised by the most famous Spaghetti Westerns such as “The good, The bad and The ugly” and other cinematic classics – “Indiana Jones and the last Crusade” and “Lawrence of Arabia… San José is surrounded by the Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve, the only desert in Europe “Tabernas”, and some of the finest beaches in Andalusía; Los Genoveses, Playa de Mónsul and Media Luna… located along a bridle way to the southwest of the town. The scenery is remarkable; rocky headlands, volcanic stones, flamingo wildlife reserve, caves and charming small fishing villages nearby. Sailing, surfing, diving, trekking and cycling are some of the activities you could enjoy in addition to the famed Spanish cuisine.
